Our Story

1970–1974 : The Beginnings, Between Card Games and Pots
It all began in a small bar located on the church square in Aregno, near the family home where Marie-Jeanne and Léon raised their four boys. It quickly became a veritable meeting place, where card games would last until sunset.
Marie-Jeanne, an excellent cook and the true soul of the home, brought some of her specialties every week. Her cuisine was simple, generous, typical of family meals shared in a friendly atmosphere. Her dishes were unanimously acclaimed, and the same comment was often made : she had to open her own restaurant! Thus, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the idea for an adventure was born that would impact several generations.

1980 : Birth of the Auberge Chez Léon
A few years passed, and this idea slowly matured... Until one day, an opportunity arose in Cateri, a charming neighboring village. Marie-Jeanne and Léon opened their first establishment there : the Auberge Chez Léon, nestled on Rue de la Paroisse. From the very beginning, the tone was set : a single menu, a Corsican menu, reflecting the local traditions and terroir. Passed down with pride, it remains the signature of the establishment today.

1992 : Creation of the Hotel U San Dume
With its growing success, the family acquired a large building that year, promising new horizons and new projects. While continuing to manage the village inn with passion and dedication, they began traveling back and forth to this location, located below the village, which would become their new professional home. This marked the birth of the Hotel U San Dume, a new chapter for the family.

1993 : Launch of the business
August 8, 1993 marked a new milestone : the start of summer operations in the large building. The welcome was simple, the cuisine faithful to Corsican terroir, and the atmosphere warm. The establishment quickly became a must-visit for travelers seeking authenticity.

2000 : A New Beginning
After years of juggling two locations, memories, and daily logistics, the decision was made : the family permanently left the village inn to settle on Avenue de la Corse. It was a significant turning point, full of emotion and promise. It is here, in this new setting, that the soul of the establishment now fully flourishes, combining charming hospitality with traditional Corsican cuisine.

2009 : The Family Succession
In 2009, a new chapter in the history of the establishment began: Dominique, one of Marie-Jeanne and Léon's sons, took over the reins with his wife Janique. Together, they perpetuated the family spirit, the love of the craft, and the passion for hospitality. At their side, Flora and Jean-Michel, their two children, already deeply involved in the restaurant, enthusiastically prepared the next chapter of this wonderful family adventure.

Today
Since then, the restaurant has been constantly evolving, thanks in particular to the presence of
chef Marc Lauque, who has been at the helm of the kitchen for over twenty years.
He skillfully
blends Corsican cuisine with Mediterranean influences, bringing a refined touch to the culinary identity of the establishment. The restaurant's spaces have also been completely redesigned, carefully modernized, while preserving the soul of the place.
A new tradition has also emerged every summer : the Chez Léon evenings, which have become a must-see.
Artists from all over Corsica, a lively atmosphere, guitars and singing until the early
hours... Here, we eat, sing, and dance on the tables!
